<< Speech Therapy for Children
Hearing Impairment
At The Speech Centre our team of Speech and Language Therapists work with children following grommet insertion, cochlear implant switch-on, and children from the Deaf community. If a child isn’t hearing well, it can affect their speech development because they aren’t hearing external sounds correctly and cannot analyse their own sound production. It can also affect their language development as the vocabulary and language structures they hear is reduced. Once their hearing has improved or their exposure to spoken speech and language has increased, our role is to try to help them ‘catch up’ or make sense of what they have missed but can now hear.
