Intellectual Disability

Children with an intellectual disability can have a range of speech and language abilities and difficulties. As with all our clients, we always conduct an in-depth speech and language assessment and create a personalised therapy plan to target the individual’s particular needs. We often do this through play activities, which we structure in a certain way to encourage comprehension and production of various aspects of language (vocabulary, sentence structures, interaction skills etc.). Each session has particular skills as targets, and we always work closely with parents are care-givers so that the speech therapy process can continue at home in everyday activities.
